Atari Releases Smartwatch Featuring 8-Bit Era Games

Atari has unveiled an unconventional gadget that transports retro gaming enthusiasts back to the age of pixelated adventures. The new Atari 2600 My Play Watch is a blend of classic gaming and basic fitness tracking. Rather than offering standard apps, the watch features legendary arcade titles: Pong, Missile Command, Super Breakout, and Centipede. These games are adapted for control via a touchscreen or a rotating crown that mimics the joystick of retro consoles.

In a deliberate move to differentiate itself from modern smartwatches, Atari has skipped features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and notifications. Instead, the device invites you to immerse yourself in a world where authentic experiences matter most. The interface is decorated with themed wallpapers and classic Atari 2600 sounds, and users can choose from three interchangeable straps featuring 80s-inspired prints.

The device sports a 2.02-inch display, a metal casing, and an IP68 rating. It tracks heart rate, steps, and calories, but its standout feature is the ability to play classic games right on your wrist. Priced at $79.99, pre-orders are already open on the official website, with shipping set to begin on June 10, 2025. While the small screen may not be ideal for long gaming sessions, the creators believe it offers a delightful escape from everyday routines—an invitation to relive the golden age of gaming before the era of 4K.
