AMD is preparing to launch the Ryzen 7 9700F, a new addition to its Zen 5 family defined by its missing integrated graphics. The chip will retain 8 cores and 16 threads but is positioned in a more budget-friendly segment around $250.
According to data reflected in the latest AGESA 1.2.0.3e microcode updates, the "F"-series processor will inherit the core specs of the base 9700X model: 8 MB of L2 cache, 32 MB of L3 cache, and a 65W TDP. The main difference is the disabled graphics block within the I/O Die (IOD), which typically houses a pair of basic RDNA 2 compute units. Reports also suggest a possible minor reduction in clock speeds.
The lack of an iGPU won't be a drawback for its target audience – users planning builds with discrete graphics cards. For them, the CPU's price-to-performance balance is more critical. The expected $250 price tag slots the Ryzen 7 9700F between the Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 7 9700X, adding another option for budget-conscious builders.
Motherboard vendors have already added support for the chip in their latest BIOS versions. While AMD hasn't made an official announcement yet, the model is expected to hit the market within the coming weeks.
