They are not particularly effective initially, but you can customize them to your playstyle thanks to various modifications. Primarily, you should equip them with armor-piercing bullets, which are effective against all types of enemies.

A pistol is a situational weapon to be used when you run out of ammo for your primary. First and foremost, pay attention to a unique pistol named Autocrat. It has high damage and rate of fire, and its bullets can penetrate even heavy armor. You can find it at the beginning of the game, during the story mission «Die Early Because of Uranium». You need to go down a vertical ladder. The box with the weapon is enclosed in an iron cage. Break the wooden wall on the right to get inside.

The most optimal choice for long-range combat is La Sorpresa rifle. It not only deals high damage but also fires explosive rounds. An alternative option is the To Orbit rocket launcher. Its main advantage is target locking, which is especially useful against combat helicopters. You can acquire this weapon during the progression of the side quest «Courage in a Bottle,» which falls under the Treasure Hunt category. You need to head to the location indicated on the map:

Read the note lying on the table, then proceed to the adjacent room. There, you need to find four valves and turn each of them. The one located on the tank should be turned last. If done correctly, an explosion will occur.

You need to open the substation door. To do this, power must be supplied from three sources. The first switch is located on the roof, the second — inside a house. To remove the poisonous gas, turn the valve on the tank. The third lever is located in a neighboring building. You need to interact with the radio, television, and a picture on the wall (in that exact order). Pull the switch, return to the substation, and claim the pistol.

If you need a high rate of fire in a sniper rifle, consider the 308 Carbine. If you miss, you'll be able to make a second or even third shot before the enemy realizes what happened.
