AMD FSR 4 will Support All Games Compatible with FSR 3.1

The FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) upscaling technology from AMD is being prepared for integration into all games that already support FSR 3.1. According to insiders, the upgrade process is expected to be as seamless as possible, involving a simple replacement of drivers and library files (DLL). The company plans to launch this technology alongside its RDNA 4 graphics cards, which are scheduled for release in March. At CES 2025, AMD provided an initial demonstration of FSR 4, showcasing its ability to significantly enhance graphics, though details about the technology remain limited.

Insider reports suggest that FSR 4 is being built on the foundation of FSR 3.1. This means that transitioning to the new version will require minimal effort from game developers—replacing the FSR 3.1 library with FSR 4 through driver updates should suffice. However, the new version will be exclusive to RDNA 4-based GPUs, potentially limiting its availability for older graphics card generations.

Some analysts believe this unified update system could pave the way for broader adoption of FSR 4. A notable example of this technology's adaptation is the recently updated version of The Last of Us Part I, which, according to rumors, is being prepared for integration with the new upscaling mechanism. The new technology is expected to make the process of implementing advanced upscaling techniques significantly easier and faster. However, whether developers will actively adopt FSR 4 at launch remains to be seen.
