The original DOOM 2 has been transformed with ray tracing
A modder with the nickname shirokii has made a real gift for fans of the classic DOOM 2. Now gamers can play an updated version of the shooter with ray tracing support and voxels instead of sprites.
The Doom 2: Ray Traced mod completely transforms the graphics in the game, adding volumetric lighting, shadows, reflections and particle-based fluid modeling. In addition, it replaces all 2D sprites with voxels, giving enemies and objects a three-dimensional look. The addon also supports NVIDIA DLSS3 frame generation technology and AMD FSR3 frame interpolation and allows you to run the game on HDR monitors.
You can download the Doom 2: Ray Traced mod at this link. By the way, it is compatible with the Steam version of the DOOM + DOOM 2 collection, which was recently presented at QuakeCon 2024.
Earlier, another team of modders improved the performance of path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077. And recently, an unofficial fan remaster with improved textures was released for Doom 3.
