Star Citizen creators fire developers again: meanwhile the game's budget has reached $750 million
As Insider Gaming writes, the studio that developed the long-term project Star Citizen is not doing well again. According to some reports, Cloud Imperium Games fired some of its employees without compensation after overtime.
One of the developers spoke about the new wave of layoffs. According to him, over the past few days, the company has fired many employees who had previously worked «to the point of exhaustion.» At the same time, the workers were left without compensation or even gratitude from the studio. Insider Gaming was able to confirm this fact through internal sources in the company. Journalists clarified that the testing department suffered the most, with about 12 people being laid off.
This is not the first time Cloud Imperium Games has cut staff — earlier this year, the studio terminated contracts with a hundred employees. They were also forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement so that news of the layoffs would not leak online.
Meanwhile, Star Citizen's budget has reached a mind-boggling $750 million, making it the most expensive game in history. And judging by the official collection page on the site, the number continues to grow, despite the lack of a clear release date.
Not long ago, Cloud Imperium Games announced that a separate story campaign, Squadron 42, will still see the light of day in 2026. The release of the mode has been postponed since 2018. Also, free weekends in Star Citizen started the other day.
