Paradox reveals development costs for canceled Life by You
In its latest financial report, Paradox revealed the full cost of its life simulator Life by You. They managed to spend about $20 million on the game before development was cancelled.
The report itself shows a rather difficult period for Paradox. The company's operating profit for the second half of the year reached just $3.4 million. For comparison, $27 million was earned during the same period in 2023. The drop was about 90%.
The cancellation of Life by You played a significant role in this. It turned out that $19.2 million was spent on the «Sims killer.» Let us remind you that the project was closed on June 18, because the company did not have enough resources to finalize the game. The release of the simulator was supposed to take place this summer. Not only the game itself went under the knife, but also the development studio Paradox Tectonic, having existed for only five years.
By the way, another life simulator is currently in development — inZOI. Its gameplay should be presented in August at gamescom 2024.
