Media: SAG-AFTRA strike will not affect GTA 6 and some AAA games
Eurogamer asked major studios like Activision, Ubisoft and Take-Two about the situation around the strike of the actors' union SAG-AFTRA. The development of Grand Theft Auto 6 and several other AAA games this year will not be affected.
It is known for sure that the strike will not affect games such as GTA 6, Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Dragon Age: The Veilguard and some games-as-services. The whole reason is in the rules of SAG-AFTRA itself. Those projects whose development began before September 2023 are not affected.
The same was confirmed by representatives of the studios interviewed by Eurogamer. However, they all indicated a slightly different date — August 25, 2023. However, the development of all the above games began long before last summer.
As for games-as-services, a different rule applies here. For another 60 days, union members can continue working before joining the strike.
According to Kotaku, journalists have already received official confirmation from Take-Two that GTA 6 will not be affected by the strike that has begun.
Recall that the SAG-AFTRA strike will begin on July 26. Union representatives intend to obtain guarantees from game publishers that AI will not deprive voice actors and motion capture of their jobs.
