Rumor: details of a new game in the Half-Life universe have emerged
Insider Tyler McVicker, who has repeatedly shared information about Valve projects and even correctly leaked details of Deadlock long before the leak, spoke about a project codenamed HLX, which could be a game in the Half-Life series.
The abbreviation has repeatedly appeared in the code of various Valve projects, the last time it was reported by data miner Gabe Follower. Recently, Tyler McVicker lifted the veil of secrecy, sharing a bunch of rumors about the game. We highlighted the most important:
- HLX will feature hand-to-hand combat;
- The game will get asymmetrical multiplayer;
- The project will add some generated content for quests and endgame;
- The capabilities of transport will be expanded and shooting while driving will be reworked;
- The project will return to the classic Half-Life formula of «shoot and survive»;
- The Source 2 engine will allow for voxel-based destructibility;
- The approximate release date of HLX is 2026.
The insider also mentioned VR technology, for which hand-to-hand combat was allegedly developed. It is not yet known whether Valve plans to limit itself to this format.
By the way, an updated mod was recently released that allows you to complete Half-Life: Alyx on PC without VR equipment. And before that, a new excerpt from a fan remake of the add-on to the original Half-Life appeared.
