BioWare Art Director Shows Concept Art of an Early Version of Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The first sketches of Dragon Age: The Veilguard appeared back in 2014, before the release of Inquisition. BioWare art director Matt Rhodes shared old concept art of the game — the fourth part could have been dark and brutal.

All the images were made as soon as the development of Dragon Age: Inquisition entered the home stretch. Before the idea had time to cool down, the studio took up concept art for the sequel in the form in which it was imagined 10 years ago.

All the way back in 2014, before Dragon Age: Inquisition had even shipped, I started sketching out what cool things might come next. We had momentum, so these quick mock ups explored where some of the unfinished story threads might lead.

Judging by the art, the fourth part really kept the brand of the series. For example, one of the images shows elven slaves serving humans, while another shows Solas summoning an ancient god. One of the concepts was nevertheless borrowed by The Veilguard, namely the throne room in the capital of Tevinter. According to the art director, BioWare planned to move the action to this empire 10 years ago.

Recall that Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released on October 31. The game received rather mixed reviews from gamers, receiving a 71% rating on Steam and 3.8 points on Metacritic. On the other hand, many appreciated the level of graphics — you can see the screenshots in a separate article.
