PUBG Creator Reveals Three New Projects After Long Silence, Including an Open World the Size of Earth

Brendan Greene, the creator of PUBG: Battlegrounds, has unveiled three projects his new studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, is currently working on after a long silence.

The first project is Prologue: Go Wayback!. It's a single-player survival simulator set in an open world. One of its standout features is landscape generation based on machine learning, offering millions of possible map variations for exploration.

«A survival adventure set in the heart of the unknown, where every decision you make determines your fate», — the description reads.

The game features a dynamic weather system, crafting, and an interactive environment. The ultimate goal is to reach a weather station and call for help. A Steam page is already available.

The second project is Preface: Undiscovered World. This tech demo aims to showcase PlayerUnknown Productions' innovative technology called Melba. It was created to generate an entire planet with a dynamic environment in real-time. Additionally, data processing occurs directly on the player's computer, not in the cloud.

«Preface gives you the opportunity to explore a vast Earth-scale world spanning 510 million km² (200 million square miles) and be among the first to witness this new technology, as it takes shape. As we continue to build and refine Melba, your experiences and feedback will play a crucial role», — the description states.

A Steam page is available where the tech demo can be downloaded. Over time, it will be supplemented with new content and features.

The third project is Artemis. According to the description, it's a large-scale multiplayer sandbox designed for thousands of players. Details are scarce, but Brendan Greene mentioned that development might take time and asked gamers to leave feedback on his projects to aid their creation.

My vision for Artemis is challenging, but we plan to take it one step at a time and the three games aim to give us a solid tech foundation on which to scale up,” he admitted. “After Prologue, two more games are planned for release in the coming years, each addressing critical technical challenges that will bring the studio closer to the final product. With Prologue, we aim to engage players and introduce them to the emergent mechanics and expansive worlds we’re developing.

As a reminder, Brendan Greene hasn't worked on PUBG: Battlegrounds since 2019.
