The Cake Is a Lie: Hollow Knight Fans Are Outraged Again, Calling Silksong Devs to Account
Nothing lasts forever, except for the attempts of fans waiting for Hollow Knight: Silksong to squeeze at least a bit of information out of Team Cherry. A recent mysterious post from one of the developers has once again destroyed the community's hopes for a quick reveal.
Recall that on January 16, William Pellen posted a strange message in which players saw a hint at the date of the Hollow Knight: Silksong demonstration. In short, the developer changed his avatar to an image of a chocolate cake, edited his nickname, and referenced the song Eyes Closed by Imagine Dragons. After doing some research, fans came to the date — April 2 — which coincided with the date of the upcoming Nintendo Direct. Putting two and two together, players came to the conclusion that William Pellen teased the demonstration of Silksong at the presentation.
However, a popular Hollow Knight blogger with the nickname firebOrn contacted the Team Cherry community manager, who debunked the theory and confirmed that the message from the developer was «nothingburger».
Leth reached out to me to confirm there was no Silksong ARG and that the changes to William's account and the tweet were a nothingburger. Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.

After that, a real fire broke out in the Hollow Knight: Silksong community on Reddit: one of the fans published a viral post in which he stated the need to reach out to Team Cherry at all costs. According to him, the developers demonstrated blatant disrespect for fans, engaging in outright trolling and reporting something important through third parties. The post collected almost 8 thousand upvotes and even brought the first results — community manager Leth condescended to the players on Discord and routinely confirmed that development is going according to plan.
However, it is difficult to call this a victory, since the date of the Hollow Knight: Silksong reveal remains unannounced. Let us recall that the game has been in development since 2019 and remains without a release date. However, Bloomberg columnist Jason Schreier is confident that the platformer will still be released in 2025.
