Dark and Darker Makers Must Pay Nexon $5.9 Million, But Not Because of Copyright

The saga of lawsuits surrounding the creators of Dark and Darker is nearing its end. The creators of the "fantasy Escape from Tarkov" were not accused of copyright infringement, but they will still have to pay compensation for another reason.
Recall that back in 2021, Nexon filed a lawsuit against Ironmace, accusing the latter of violating copyright and trade secrets. According to GamesRadar, several developers, including the CEO, previously worked at Nexon on Project P3, the mechanics and setting of which could migrate to Dark and Darker.
In 2023, the action game finally disappeared from Steam due to litigation and returned a year later as a free version with some restrictions. Now, as reported by the South Korean publication ChosunBiz, the dispute between the two parties has been settled. Ironmace was cleared of copyright infringement charges, but was also forced to pay compensation for disclosing trade secrets. Now the creators of Dark and Darker will have to pay 8.5 billion won (about 5.87 million dollars).
