Recently, it was revealed that NetEase has cut funding for some of its western teams. There were concerns that this might have affected the French studio Quantic Dream, known for Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human.
Studio CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere stated that Quantic Dream was not impacted by the layoffs at NetEase, and the development of Star Wars Eclipse is continuing "at full pace".
We were deeply saddened to learn about the recent layoffs and studio closures affecting some of the NetEase group’s divisions. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, and we sincerely hope that they quickly find new opportunities. David Cage and I would like to express our gratitude to the fans and friends who have reached out to us in recent days regarding QUANTIC DREAM. We want to reassure everyone that our studios in Paris and Montreal remain unaffected. We are continuing to develop our projects at full pace, with several open positions available in both locations.
As a reminder, Quantic Dream was acquired by NetEase in 2022.
By the way, we previously reported that NetEase laid off the entire western development team of Marvel Rivals along with the director.
