A player has discovered a hidden counter for Shadowheart in the code of Baldur's Gate 3, which opens up a rare opportunity

A YouTuber with the nickname SlimX discovered an additional approval points counter in Baldur's Gate 3, which the developers prescribed for Shadowheart. It affects one of the rarest dialogues with the character and her personal quest.

Each companion in Baldur's Gate 3 develops a relationship with the player depending on certain actions. Certain actions or phrases activate an in-game counter, which adds or subtracts «approval points» from the characters in relation to the main character. As SlimX found out, Shadowheart has two such counters.

Some player actions towards her character can earn so-called «Night Song points». Upon receiving four of these points in the second act, a rare dialogue with Shadowheart is activated, in which the half-elf questions Shar's actions without prompting from the player. Moreover, upon reaching the Song of Night dungeon, the priestess will not have to be persuaded to spare the demigoddess — Shadowheart will independently refuse to kill the captive.

To activate this feature, you need to complete four of six steps:

  • Talk to Shadowheart twice about her memory with the wolf;
  • Talk about the wound on your hand;
  • Unlock memories using a Noblestalk;
  • Give a night orchid;
  • Allow her to donate blood during Shar's trials.

As some players admitted, they managed to unknowingly activate this dialogue and achieve a cutscene in which Shadowheart herself refused to kill Nightsong. Now thanks to SlimX we know exactly how this feature can be realized.

Recently, the head of Larian Studios admitted that they had to rewrite the character of Shadowheart, since her character greatly irritated the writers.
