In «Short-Sighted Ambition» in Dragon's Dogma 2, players meet Isaac, an apothecary who needs a ripe quince fruit. This quest takes you on a journey to find the fruit, during which players have the power to influence Isaac's destiny. Our guide will walk you through the steps to complete the quest and explore every possible ending, ensuring you understand the impact of your choices.
This quest begins when you first speak to an apothecary named Isaac in the city of Backbattal. He will share his vision problems and ask you to find a ripe quince fruit.
Tip: If you do not plan to complete this quest in the near future, do not choose the «Talk» option in the dialogue. This will cause every subsequent interaction with the character to start with the quince dialogue.
The required item can be found near the city. Bushes occur randomly next to main and secondary roads, but you can head to the mark we left on the map below to find one of the bushes. Ultimately, you need only one quince fruit. If you have one, you just have to wait for it to ripen.
The ripe fruit must stay in your inventory for about three days before it can be given to Isaac. The item will become ripe, but do not overdo it: after two more days, it will become rotten. If you've done everything correctly, return to the apothary and give him the fruit. Then wait another day (until morning) and visit Isaac in his shop again.
The next day, when you try to talk to Isaac, you will notice one missing eye on the apothecary. He will also ask you to find a special book for him, which will help in studying spells.
The book «On Soul Transmigration: Volume 2» can be bought at Ibrahim's shop in the Border Town. However, if you want a good ending for Isaac, do not give him the original. Buy the item and immediately order a fake from Ibrahim. Why? We'll explain more about this in the next section.
Good ending: buy «On Soul Transmigration: Volume 2» and immediately order a fake from Ibrahim. In this case, you will have to wait a few game days (it took us exactly two days). Give Isaac the fake, who will attempt to cast the spell, but it will not work. This will lead him to abandon the idea and return to his life as a humble shopkeeper, and as a reward, you will receive 16,000 gold and 3,000 experience.
Bad ending: return the real book to Isaac, bought at Ibrahim's shop. He will read the spell, thereby killing his wife and daughter. In this case, you will lose the gold reward and only receive 3,000 experience. However, you can inspect the body of his wife and find the Ring of Disfavor. By the way, this option also opens a new branch in the quest «Off the Pilfered Path.» In it, you can offer Hugo to take over Isaac's abandoned shop.
Tip: If you decide to go for the good ending and give Isaac the fake, you can buy the grimoire «On Soul Transmigration: Volume 1» in his shop. If you combine the two volumes, you will get the powerful spell «Song of the Heavens.» This is a one-time spell, but very powerful. Use it in battles against bosses.
