Guide to Family Relics in Rogue Legacy 2
Rogue Legacy 2 is the sequel to the popular platformer with roguelike elements, where you're tasked with exploring castles and caves, as well as developing your dwelling. During your adventure, you can collect gold and find family relics. In this guide, we will explain what family relics are and how to unlock additional abilities for your hero.
What are Family Relics
Family relics are statues that allow you to acquire various skills. Acquiring each skill is accompanied by a challenging trial, where you must learn to use it and also prove that you are worthy of the ability.
You can first encounter a family relic at the bottom part of the Agartha Citadel. It will introduce itself as Ananke's Shawl. Agree to take its trial, complete it, and receive your first upgrade — «Ananke's Shawl». This item allows you to dash in the air. From this point on, every new hero will be able to use this ability.
It's worth noting that encountering a family relic is a good chance to replenish health and mana points. Complete the trial without taking damage to return to the main world with maximum HP.
Where to Find Family Relics and Unlock All Additional Abilities
In total, you can find six such relics and undergo the corresponding number of trials. They are mainly located in different biomes.
Note: The room layout in your playthrough may differ from the screenshots below. This is because the biomes look different after each death.
To complete all five trials, we used the «Ranger» class.
Air Dash (Ananke's Shawl)
- What it does: Initially, you can only dash while on a solid surface. This ability allows you to dash in the air;
- How to find: Can be found at any level of the «Agartha Citadel» biome.
During the trial, the hero can already dash in the air. Continue moving forward until the game transports you to another room. Jumping here is not advisable, as there are fire pipes located at the top of the area. Deal with one of the skeletons and cross over to where it was. Right after that, two beak-nosed maidens will appear. Wait for the fire to extinguish, and use the air dash to avoid damage.
Right after that, you will find yourself in a room with four platforms. You'll have to fight with static blades. Don't stay in one place and keep moving. Once you defeat all enemies, the game will teleport you to a corridor with fire pipes. Use running and dashing to the right to avoid taking damage.
In the next room, you need to descend and use the air dash to reach the platforms near the water and eliminate the monsters. Follow the same principle to deal with the enemies in the last location, pass through a small obstacle course, and collect the relic.
Reading Memories and Blocking Nightmares (Aesop's Tome)
- What it does: Allows reading Memories, blocking Nightmares, and is also required for accessing Scars;
- How to find: Located at the top part of the Agartha Citadel biome.
This Family Relic is most often found on the upper floors of the starting location. At the beginning of the challenge, you need to descend and read the Memory, which talks about the third path. Stand next to the Memory and jump down through the center of the map.
Reach the spinning fire traps. Now, you must push off them using a kick. You need to calculate the timing correctly to avoid damage.
When the game teleports you to another location, you will encounter Nightmares. These creatures are harmless and only attack if you attack or use a kick. As we've noted, it's best to tackle such challenges with the «Ranger» class.
To avoid damage from Nightmares, after you perform an attack, immediately use a dash in any direction. Since the Nightmare shoots at the last location of the hero, it will surely miss this way.
You will also learn how to calm these enemies. To do this, approach them and press the interaction button. Remember that after some time, the Nightmare will come to its senses and start hunting you again if you attack.
In the next room, there will be two Nightmares and several enemies. If you are playing as a Ranger, calm one enemy and deal with the rest.
In the location with four platforms, you need to first stand on the right, then on the left, so the skeletons fall down. Perform this trick with the central platforms, after which the game will move you to another room.
The penultimate location also consists of disappearing platforms. Ignore the enemies and descend to the lowest platform, then climb up and stand on the stone surface. All enemies will fall down and die on the spikes.
In the final room, you will also need to calm the Nightmare and deal with the monsters. At the end of the challenge, a small obstacle run awaits you. If you have any questions, watch the video walkthrough of this challenge.
Echo Boots
- What it does: adds the ability to interact with resonant platforms to the «kick» ability;
- How to find: located in the first room of the World Axis biome (Axis Mundi). Inspect the upper right part of the location to find the door to the relic. You will need to pass a trial room to earn these boots and gain access to the rest of the biome.
The easiest way to complete this trial is with the Pathfinder. Pass through a small obstacle course and destroy all targets. The game suggests that you should use echo-kicks to reach them. But you can use a bow for this purpose.
Later on, you will meet resonant enemies. If you have carefully explored all the rooms, you surely have encountered them. Such enemies cannot be killed with ordinary weapons, only with echo-kicks.
In the final part of the trial, there will be four Nightmares under the hero. You need to jump, use an echo-kick, and interact with the portal. When the heir comes out of the portal, immediately use a second echo-kick to bounce off the Nightmare's charge.
Double Jump (Ether Wings)
- What it does: unlocks double jump for the hero. With these boots, you can also run on water, gain access to Naama's arena, and the Stygian Academy;
- How to find: located on the Kerguelen Plateau. To find the relic, explore the far part of the Shores.
As we have already noted, the relic can be found in the Kerguelen Plateau location. To get to the Far Shores, always follow to the right. This way, you will find yourself in front of a lake, which you will have to cross. In addition to jumping and dashing, we recommend using one of the Pathfinder's talents «Ivy Canopy». With its help, you can reach the middle of the lake and rest, then use jump, dash again, and create a platform out of ivy. The talent «Invulnerability» would also be suitable, but it can only be found by exploring biomes.
During the trial, you will already have unlocked double jump. Use it to ascend and move to another room. After defeating two skeletons and the pupil, proceed to the location with champions. Here, you will need to use double jump to dodge fireballs.
In the next room, you will face a battle with several aqua barriers. These enemies move quickly and have a large health pool, so dodge in time and use double jump. Note that there are torches on the right and left. Break them to restore HP and mana.
As usual, in the final part of the trial, you will face a small obstacle course. Complete it and take the Ether Wings.
Void Dash (Void Bell)
- What it does: transforms regular and aerial dashes into «void dash». The ability increases the length of the dash and allows passing through void doors (purple-colored doors). It also enables dodging incoming projectiles and fireballs;
- How to find: located in the Stygian Academy. Required for passing through Enoch's arena and for access to the Tower of the Sun. Also necessary in some locations of the «Dried Lake Phison» biome.
This is the last Family Relic you can obtain after completing the trial. Your regular dashes have been replaced with void ones. With their help, you can pass through void objects and projectiles. Surely, you've encountered barriers of purple color that can't be destroyed. Now, you can do so with just one dash.
Some enemies release void charges of purple color. You can also pass through such charges using void dashes and avoid taking damage.
Sun Lantern
- What it does: illuminates dark areas;
- How to find: located at the entrance to the «Dried Lake Phison» biome, if you manage to defeat the boss Irad in the Sun Tower. Otherwise, the character who gives out the relic will not appear. We do not recommend traveling in the dark.
