Best Spells in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Many players believe that playing FromSoftware projects as mages is much easier than as warriors. Indeed, if you rely on spells, you don't have to get up close to enemies. However, it is important to choose the most powerful destructive spells. In this guide, we will discuss the best ones in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring.
Note that spells themselves are not a guarantee of high damage. To increase the effectiveness of magic, it is important to upgrade the Wisdom and Faith parameters. Additionally, keep in mind that each boss is vulnerable to a particular element, so it is crucial to use different types of spells in battle, depending on the situation. Besides this, there are healing spells that are also useful during combat.
Great Golden Arc
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Faith Requirement: 34 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 24 units.
This type of magic creates an arc that hits an area. It can strike both regular enemies and huge bosses, as they will find it difficult to dodge your attack. We recommend using this spell for players who actively upgrade the Faith parameter.
Access to the Great Golden Arc will be unlocked after defeating the Furnace Sleeping Giant. You will encounter him in the Unte Ruins.
Elusive Microcosm
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Wisdom Requirement: 42 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 20 units.
This spell produces an explosion that deals damage to a whole group of enemies. It is most effective against crowds of small foes, but it can also be used during boss fights.
You can obtain the Elusive Microcosm from a merchant named Imir. However, he will sell you these spells only after you complete the quest chain of the Finger's Abode Ruins. We will dedicate a separate guide to this quest line.
Crucible Knight Attribute: Spikes
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Faith Requirement: 27 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 30 units.
Another spell aimed at destroying groups of monsters. It creates icy spikes on the ground that attack an area. It is not as effective against bosses but can be useful if you don't have a better option.
You will obtain this type of magic after defeating a boss known as the Golden Hippopotamus.
Ghost Flame Breath
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Sorcery Requirement: 15 points, Faith — 23 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 36 units.
Creates a dragon head that breathes fire forward. It will be useful to you during battles with bosses who are vulnerable to fire.
You can obtain this spell at the Great Altar of Dragon Communion on Fang Mountain. You need to bring three dragon hearts. You can collect them from the corpses of ancient lizards that you kill in the open world of the game.
Gravitational Projectile
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Wisdom Requirement: 36 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 18 units.
An interesting spell that pulls enemies towards itself and then explodes. Effective against groups of relatively weak opponents.
This type of magic drops from a boss known as the Falling Star Beast. You can encounter it near the Sellia Crystal Tunnel, on the Altus Plateau, and in Fingerstone Hill.
Knight's Lightning Spear
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Faith Requirement: 36 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 29 units.
An analogue of the Lightning Spear from the original game, but more effective. The lightning strike hits a single enemy, and then additional electric damage is dealt to it and nearby targets. The spell is effective against bosses and strong mobs.
The Knight's Lightning Spear drops from a boss in the Scorpion River Catacombs.
Fire Serpent
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Faith Requirement: 16 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 11 units.
Essentially, this is a homing fireball. It is useful against both regular enemies and bosses, especially against fast opponents. Its main advantage is automatic target tracking. Combined with decent damage, it makes an excellent combo, especially against enemies vulnerable to fire. And due to its low energy cost, you can cast Fire Serpents frequently.
You will find this spell in the back of the warehouse located in the Church District.
Light of Miquella
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Wisdom Requirement: 72 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 48 units.
The best spell available in Shadow of the Erdtree. It creates a bright light that kills enemies in a certain area. Due to its massive damage, it can be used against bosses. However, during battles with regular enemies, it's better to use magic that consumes less focus.
Light of Miquella can be exchanged for the soul of the Future Consort Radan, the final boss of the expansion. The spell will be useful for future playthroughs of the main game and DLC.
Land of Shadows
- Spell Type: ranged attack;
- Faith Requirement: 58 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 40 units.
A spell that creates several golden orbs directed towards the enemy. It has a long casting time, but the damage more than compensates for the slow speed. It can be exchanged for the soul of a boss known as the Embodiment of the Decay Tree. We discussed it in a separate guide.
Ansbach's Frenzied Blade
- Spell Type: melee attack;
- Faith Requirement: 19 points, Sorcery: 27 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 18 units.
Some types of magic in Elden Ring replace melee weapons. This includes Ansbach's Blade. It allows you to fight like a swordsman and perform combos. If you are an experienced sorcerer with a focus on Faith, this spell can complement your ranged spells. It can be useful if the enemy is too fast and doesn't allow you to cast.
You will receive this magical sword after completing Ansbach's questline.
Remote Healing
- Spell Type: healing;
- Faith Requirement: 18 points;
- Focus Points Cost: 45 units.
Healing spells are useful for those who play Elden Ring in co-op. You will be able to restore the health of allies over a long distance. It is not necessary to be a pure healer. You can cast healing spells when needed, while relying on destructive magic most of the time.
The scroll with Remote Healing is located in a cave at the foot of Rauh's Ruins.
