Captain America's shield first appeared in Season 8, which started in February 2019. Initially, this item was exclusive to one mode, but now it is available in the Battle Royale mode with some changes.
The easiest way to get Captain America's shield in Fortnite is to find and talk to NPC Captain Jones, who will sell you this weapon for 200 gold bars. He is located at the Ship It! Station landmark northwest of the Nitrodrome arena.
Note: Gold bars reset at the start of a new season, so you might be short on this currency now. You can earn gold bars by eliminating opponents or searching safes, but the best way is to visit weapon vaults in the middle of a match.
