Most of the planet was destroyed by a cataclysm that caused strange, zombie-like creatures to appear. The survivors called them Husks. The last remnants of humanity fight them off from the safety of strange shelters built from various materials. Along the way, they try to figure out what caused the strange purple storm that started it all.

Fortnite originally launched as a co-op online shooter, where a team of four players must destroy waves of enemies and complete missions on the map. Later, the free-to-play Battle Royale mode was added. It supports 100 players, and the last one standing wins. Both game modes are popular thanks to their fast-paced gameplay, lengthy story campaign or intense battles against other players, and extensive progression options that keep players coming back again and again.

1) Randomly generated content: level landscapes, buildings and roads, mission types and objectives, rewards and loot, weapon and gear blueprints, and more.

2) Gathering resources from three basic materials and a dozen additional ones to build walls and other barriers, various traps, weapons, ammo, and gear (blueprints are required), as well as other useful items.

3) Building and destructible environments. Everything in the game can be broken down and put to better use—for example, to build a safe corridor for evacuating survivors or a fortress for self-defense. Enemies can destroy your structures too, so watch out!

A mysterious purple storm from space struck Earth. It immediately turned 97% of the planet’s population into dozens of different Husks, which look somewhat like zombies. Different Husks serve different roles during attacks, and they become more aggressive and powerful during the storm. The survivors found a way to protect themselves from the threat by building energy shields to protect their settlements. A player starts as the leader of one of these settlements. They need to provide for their residents, find other survivors, seek allies to expand the storm shield, and figure out how to restore Earth to the way it was.

Fortnite’s main menu is the player’s base, where they can find a map of the game world with missions, a character selection menu, an upgrade menu, and more. At first, everything will be surrounded by purple fog, but as the story progresses, it will move farther away from the base. The main goal is to destroy the storm for good and restore the planet to normal, but this will take 500 hours or more—that’s how it’s planned. In Fortnite, side missions are closely tied to the story, and you can only learn its shocking details by completing 3–5 side missions.

There are four hero classes (Soldier, Constructor, Ninja, and Outlander, whose roles are clear from their names), divided into five rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Characters of the highest rarity have more upgrade levels, abilities, and skills to unlock than those of the lowest rarity. While completing a mission, Fortnite players take on the role of an operative character, so they can try out all the different classes and rarities. To upgrade characters, you need to earn experience from missions and development points, which are activated with special items and after unlocking skills.

This is the main game mode, which you can play with friends or alone with bots. Gather resources, complete missions, build structures, set traps, and shoot enemies. If you complete all the quests exactly as the game requires, you’ll get extra rewards—money, experience, development points, schematics, and more. The farther you get from your base, the harder the game becomes. You need to unlock the entire game zone.

Fortnite Battle Royale takes place on one giant map, and no gameplay features, including building and crafting, have been removed. But you can ignore those features and simply search the map for weapons, ammo, traps, and other items that are randomly placed in houses, trees, cars, and similar locations. Over time, a purple storm surrounds the island, so you won’t be able to stay in one place for long—you’ll have to move toward the center of the map, where it’s much more dangerous.

A total of 100 players take part, but there can only be one winner. You can team up and compete against opponents in a squad or duo, and revive fallen teammates. Aim carefully, as friendly fire also deals damage. A variety of vehicles, as well as several battle maps instead of just one, will be added soon.
