Ian McKellen is ready to play Gandalf in the new Lord of the Rings film. But with a condition

Actor Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in Peter Jackson's trilogy, has hinted at his return to the role of the wizard. This requires one condition, and it is slightly sad.

«If I'm alive,» answered the 85-year-old actor when asked by The Times if he was ready to play Gandalf again. In addition, the new film has not yet acquired a script, and the performer would first of all like to familiarize himself with the plan for the new film adaptation.

The announcement of a new film based on the Lord of the Rings universe took place in early May. The film will be subtitled «The Hunt for Gollum» and will be directed by Andy Serkis. He will also return as the Ring-cursed hobbit. Among the producers of the film is Peter Jackson.

The film will premiere in 2026.

Recently, the actor who plays Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen, answered a question from journalists whether he was ready to play in the new «Lord of the Rings.»
