Journalists showed new Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay and shared their impressions

Game Informer has published 14 minutes of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay. The largest expansion in FromSoftware's history will be released on June 21.

The DLC events will unfold in the Lands of Shadows, a completely new region where players will meet Miquella the Kind and Messmer the Impaler. The developers have added a lot of new weapons, skills, and spells, as well as several bosses — some of which will be particularly challenging.

Preview details:

  • The game presentation took place in several locations. For instance, a Game Informer journalist attended an event in the very center of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, while Push Square was invited to a Parisian church;
  • The starting location of Shadow of the Erdtree looks like a giant cemetery. This is the place shown in the debut art of the expansion;
  • The expansion will include 100 new types of weapons;
  • Journalists talked about a new progression system tied to the Scadurtree Fragments. Finding them allows the player to enhance attacks and increase resistance to damage. These enhancements do not work in locations from the base game;
  • New grace sites are represented by traces of Miquella the Kind;
  • During the presentation, journalists encountered a boss — the Divine Beast. It is a giant lion seemingly controlled from within. In the second phase, the boss starts attacking with lightning and ice;
  • There is also a knight named Relanna in the game, wielding two blades. An IGN journalist called her the toughest boss seen so far;
  • The open world is described as huge and stunningly diverse, but journalists were not shown the entire map. The starting location offers a view of a vast field with ruins, a crypt, a large castle in the distance, and other points of interest;
  • The game features a dungeon comparable in size to Stormveil Castle and Castle Morne. It contains many additional branches.
