First footage of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

Entertainment Weekly has shared the first images from the animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which will serve as a prequel to the film trilogy.

The film is set 260 years before the events of the first Lord of the Rings film. The plot will tell the story of Helm Hammerhand, the ninth king of Rohan, an ally of Gondor.

The first image shows the main villain — the leader of the Dunlendings, Wulf. The second frame shows Helm's daughter, Hera. They are voiced by Luke Pasqualino and Gaia Wise.

The animated film is set to premiere in US cinemas on December 13, 2024.
