CD Projekt RED Shares New Development Details for The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4 recently entered the active production stage, as reported by CD Projekt RED. Eurogamer talked to the studio's developers, learning a few new details about the creation of the game.

According to CDPR technical vice president Charles Tremblay, the new The Witcher will be released on a larger scale than its predecessor, and in a much better technical condition than Cyberpunk 2077. To achieve this, the studio divided the production into several projects with different levels of verification.

The game will also most likely be released immediately on PC and consoles without early access, as was the case with Baldur's Gate 3 from Larian Studios. In addition, the studio will launch a long-term marketing campaign for The Witcher 4 — from the moment of the announcement until the release of the game, it will take a little less than two years. However, the developers have also learned the lessons of Cyberpunk 2077, so they promise not to create hype, but simply «whet the fans' appetite.» They are also ready to work more carefully on the platforms for the game so that history does not repeat itself with PS4 and Xbox One.

With future games, with the Witcher or you know, with Cyberpunk in the future, it's only down to us. Everything can fail, but it's our role to make sure it doesn't. And remembering and understanding that I think is the biggest reason for me to be optimistic, because in the company everyone's constantly worried — but worried in a good way, if you know what I mean. Worried that we are going to do it in a good enough way? «Are we, for sure, not letting something slip through our fingers?» And if you're that kind of worried, I think that gives us better chances of being successful in the future than thinking we can't fail because we're too big, or too whatever — you know, noses up our somethings.

Recall that The Witcher 4 is being developed under the code name Project Polaris on the Unreal Engine 5. The game's release date remains unknown.
