What Could Have Been the Next Deus Ex: Insights from the Writer of Human Revolution and Mankind Divided
Unexpected details about a sequel to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided have surfaced online. Mark Cecere, the writer of the last two installments, shared these insights during an interview with the new YouTube channel From Script to Life.
The video revealed that the sequel was envisioned as a bridge connecting the old and new eras of Deus Ex. According to the plot, Adam Jensen would fail to defeat the Illuminati, with his actions leading directly to the dystopian world seen in the 2000 original game. Cecere also aimed to explore the rise of Bob Page, one of the most pivotal characters in the Deus Ex universe.
In the same interview, Cecere mentioned that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was originally intended to focus on a different character, but the game was scaled back due to budgetary and other constraints. Regarding the ending, the writer admitted it was contentious, aligning with the views of many fans.
In January 2024, Jason Schreier reported that a new Deus Ex installment had been canceled.
