Sony Cancels Two Games — One Was a God of War Project by Demon's Souls Remake Developers
According to a recent Bloomberg report, Sony has decided to cancel two unannounced live-service games that were being developed by Bend Studio (known for Syphon Filter and Days Gone) and Bluepoint Games (known for remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus). A Sony representative confirmed this information.
Renowned journalist Jason Schreier reported that one of the canceled projects was a live-service game set in the God of War universe, which Bluepoint Games had been working on for the past couple of years.
As for the second project, details remain undisclosed. It might be the game whose screenshots leaked online in December. It could have been related to the Syphon Filter series and was reportedly being developed by Bend Studio.
Commenting on the cancellations, a Sony representative stated that the decision was made "after a recent review." He mentioned that Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games would not be shut down and would continue to develop new games, both online and single-player.
"Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects", — the Sony representative told Jason Schreier.
It's worth noting that in recent years, Sony has invested significantly in the development of online live-service games. One of the successful projects is Helldivers 2.
However, there have been some failures as well. A notable example is Concord, which was canceled just two weeks after its release. Other canceled online projects include a live-service game in the Twisted Metal series, Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web, The Last of Us Online, as well as games from London Studios and Deviation Games.
Currently, Sony is still working on live-service games like Horizon Online and Fairgame$. The former, according to a recent rumor, might be officially unveiled at the State of Play event later this month.
