Introducing the Steam Brick — a unique version of Valve's console without a screen and controllers

Enthusiast Crastinator-Pro has created a unique modification of the Steam Deck, transforming it into a compact device called the Steam Brick. The console features a minimalist design: now it has no screen or controllers, just a power button and a USB port for connecting to external devices.

This mod addresses the issue of the original's excessive size, which often didn’t fit in a backpack or took up too much space in carry-on luggage. According to the creator, the Steam Brick is significantly lighter and more compact, measuring 193.5 x 126.5 x 21 mm and weighing 474 g, which is four times smaller than the original console. The device still includes a battery, allowing it to be used in portable mode.

To display content, the modder uses external devices — a TV, monitor, or AR/VR glasses. A controller or other input device is also required. The creator noted that due to the lack of a volume control button, access to the BIOS is no longer possible, but the issue can be bypassed using a terminal command. The project is detailed on GitHub, and the mod has garnered interest from those looking for more compact and functional gaming solutions. The creator warned that replicating the mod could potentially damage the device.
