Report: Almost 80% of Developers Admit They Don't Test Games Enough

A recent survey of developers from various studios showed that only 23% of game creators are confident in the quality of the projects they release. In addition, the budget allocated for testing is meager for modern games, but AI can change everything.

As Insider Gaming writes, modl.ai conducted a large-scale study, collecting reports from various developers. As a result, 77% of video game industry employees admitted that their studios do not test games enough before release. And about half are sure that QA departments are not allocated enough budget to test modern complex projects. A striking illustration, according to Insider Gaming, were Cyberpunk 2077 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

The same study cited the words of Dajana Dimovska, head of Indium Play, a company that tests games. She sees AI as the solution to the quality problem:

You’re never going to catch every bug, but AI can get you closer. It can take on early testing responsibilities, reducing the need for large QA teams throughout the production phase.

As the game reaches a more playable and polished state, manual QA testers step in — working alongside AI to identify and address quality issues. This collaboration between experienced testers and AI ensures a better final product.

By the way, 94% of developers in the survey agreed that neural networks can play an important role. But due to the complexity of setup and fear of job losses, only 18% of respondents are ready to implement AI in their processes.

Earlier, Bloomberg columnist Jason Schreier explained why game development has grown to astronomical amounts.
