Microsoft Teaches Windows 11 to Complain About Weak Hardware

Microsoft is experimenting with a new tool for Windows 11 that turns system settings into a personal IT consultant. Test builds of the OS have revealed a hidden section with intelligent prompts that analyze a computer’s «weak links» — ranging from outdated graphics cards to insufficient RAM.

In the updated «About» menu, a dynamic FAQ block now scans your PC’s configuration and generates personalized recommendations. For example, if a device has less than 8 GB of RAM, the system explains how this limits multitasking, while users with integrated graphics are reminded of the benefits of discrete GPUs for gaming and video editing.

An interesting detail is that the section adapts even to non-standard scenarios. For instance, if a system has only 3 GB of RAM (below the official minimum for Windows 11), users will still receive optimization tips, even though the OS isn’t technically supposed to run on such devices.

This innovation is primarily aimed at newcomers who often don’t understand the connection between hardware and performance. Instead of relying on abstract scores like those from the outdated Windows Experience Index (remember the performance tests in Vista?), the system offers clear, practical explanations.

The feature was discovered in Dev Channel builds, which traditionally test features for future major updates — likely for version 24H2. However, Microsoft has not yet announced an official release, leaving room to change course at the last minute. Experts note that the company’s approach has evolved: moving away from dry numbers and indexes in favor of practical advice in everyday language. This could reduce the number of support calls and help millions of users with underpowered PCs understand the need for an upgrade.
