Microsoft Unveils AI That Generates Quake 2 Gameplay On-the-Go — Available in Browser

Microsoft has unveiled a new version of the WHAMM (World and Human Action MaskGIT Model) model, which is responsible for generating games in real time. Now any user can personally try out the AI version of Quake 2 right in the browser.
There are some complaints about the gameplay so far — the game does not immediately respond to input and you have to wait about a second for a response, and the frame rate is 15 FPS on average. Nevertheless, this is a playable demo version that can take some time. Movement in the game is carried out using the WASD combination, players can look around by pressing the arrows, and the F key is responsible for shooting. It is noteworthy that WHAMM was trained in just a week, while its predecessor WHAM-1.6B took seven years, writes Tom's Hardware.
By the way, Microsoft recently announced that it is looking at artificial intelligence to save old games. The neural network can help with optimizing projects for modern hardware.
