TOP-7 games similar to Wasteland 3
If you have already tried Wasteland 3 and want something more similar, we have prepared a list of related games for you. There is an old-school Russian RPG, an isometric role-playing game about anthropomorphic animals, and even a noir detective story with many awards.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a turn-based tactical RPG released in 2018 on all current platforms. The development was carried out by the Swedish studio The Bearded Ladies, and the board game of the same name was taken as a basis.
In the story, the land is in decline after the outbreak of the Red Plague. Even greater destruction was caused by a nuclear war, after which almost all life on the planet died out. Small groups of survivors need the help of «stalkers» who go out to explore in search of resources. It is these trained mutants that will accompany the player until the final credits.
The gameplay of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is in many ways similar not only to Wasteland, but also to other isometric RPGs, such as, for example, Fallout 1 and 2. The battles take place in a turn-based mode, but everything it doesn't devolve into an XCOM-style strategy game. This is still a role-playing game, and therefore there is no escape from leveling up. In addition, the local post-apocalypse further strengthens the association in the head with the classic representatives of the cult series.
ATOM RPG
It is generally accepted that ATOM RPG was developed exclusively by Russian developers. Actually this is not true. Ukrainians, Latvians and Poles also worked on the game. However, considering that the setting for the RPG is the post-apocalyptic expanses of the USSR, such a creative tandem does not harm the project.
The local Soviet Union immerses you in a matter of minutes. In ATOM RPG, everything seems as close as possible: everything that the local world is built from, you have, one way or another, seen in real life. Carpets on the walls, all «our» names, slate roofs of houses, laundry drying on the street. This list can be continued endlessly. It is ATOM RPG that gives those emotions that Western gamers feel when wandering through their in-game worlds.
If you are not flattered by the romance of the classic «fallout» in Wasteland 3, you can safely try to immerse yourself in the world of ATOM RPG. Despite its apparent simplicity, the game is highly developed and can deprive you of sleep for several days. In a good way.
Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG
Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic takes place in an alternate 70s. Scientists have discovered a mysterious dome in the middle of the desert, presumably left by representatives of an unknown civilization. Players will have to figure out what this mysterious artifact is, why it is needed and why it is here.
The gameplay is based on the gameplay of classic isometric RPGs, and therefore you can see the similarities with Wasteland with the naked eye. Top view, turn-based combat system, branching dialogues, on which the development of the entire plot or secondary quests often depends. In addition, Encased provides not only leveling, but also a reputation system. Depending on the hero's actions, NPCs and his companions, who can be found and recruited as you progress, will react differently to him. In total, the game will take you from 30 to 40 hours. Rest assured, this time will fly by.
UnderRail
Another RPG that flirts in every possible way with the classic isometric representatives of the genre.
Post-apocalypse again, but now devastation has forced humanity to live underground and in metro stations. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? However, unlike the «gameizations» of Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels, here players are given much more freedom, and it becomes easier to learn more about the world.
In terms of gameplay, UnderRail uses the established canons of the immortal classic Fallout, and therefore is a must-read for everyone who liked the third part of Wasteland.
Disco Elysium
Disco Elysium is perhaps the most unusual participant in the top. There are no fights in the usual sense; instead, all problems are solved through dialogues. It was thanks to them that the game received high marks from the press and various awards. Many people compare Disco Elysium not even with games, but with books. Which is probably natural. However, whatever one may say, this is still an RPG. Here, leveling, an open world, and an isometric view are all in place.
There are four main skill groups in the game: Intelligence, Mentality, Physics and Motor, and each of them has six different secondary skills. In total there are 24 of them. You will play as an alcoholic policeman with a difficult fate, which, you see, is new to the genre. We are used to the fact that such RPGs usually tell a story in an environment of devastation and hopelessness. Here everything is much more mundane, and therefore it becomes more interesting to follow the plot.
Project Haven
From a mundane detective story, let's return to fantasy again. Project Haven is an isometric RPG with tactics, leveling up and other integral attributes of such games. Particular emphasis is placed on the player's strategic thinking. Not only do you give orders to your team members, but you can also take control of characters to shoot opponents accurately in third-person mode. As expected, if you hit the legs, the NPC will slow down; if you hit the hands, the accuracy will be approximately like that of stormtroopers from Star Wars.
Project Haven supports co-op play mode, so even if you get bored with it, you can call your comrades and together put the villains in their place.
Solasta: Crown of the Magister
There was a post-apocalypse, there was sci-fi, there was even a noir detective story. Fantasy fans, there's something for you too. Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a top-down turn-based RPG. It all starts with recruiting your own combat squad, with the members of which players will have to go through a long and eventful adventure.
Like Wasteland, the main gameplay component of Solasta is turn-based combat. Despite the isometric perspective, the game allows you to use the environment and even introduces an element of verticality. Warriors can be thrown somewhere higher so that they attack opponents from above.
