FIFA 23 is an arcade football simulator from the Canadian studio EA Sports, offering players the chance to win the 2022-2023 season of real European (and not only) football. The concept of FIFA has not undergone significant changes compared to previous games, offering only a number of gameplay and graphical improvements, as well as modified game modes.
Features:
- 30+ football leagues, predominantly European (RPL is not represented);
- 100+ real stadiums, as well as several fictional ones;
- 350+ real coaches/managers, of which 30 most famous have undergone facial scanning;
- 700+ official clubs, including licensed attributes, logos, kits, etc.;
- almost 20,000 real players, with detailed representations of the most famous among them;
- player models have new body physics and more 6000 animations thanks to the HyperMotion2 system, which affected shooting, movement, and nuances of ball control;
- women's football leagues and female referees — for the first time in the series, you can create a female player to break into the giants of club football, as well as become a coach, competing for championship in the women's league (English, French, UEFA Champions League);
- the style of play and control for women is drastically different from men due to a different physical model and control model.
Gameplay innovations
The match tempo in FIFA 23, compared to FIFA 22, has decreased, encouraging a more measured game and the use of all footballer techniques. The latter have been made more inert and heavier, thus returning significant differences between types. Wingers are fast, forwards are agile, central defenders are tough, etc.
It is now harder for the gamer to control the player with the ball, and the artificial intelligence has been adjusted to press more. Thus, it is not easy to get past defenders with dribbling, feints, or ordinary sprints — they will catch up and take the ball. Allied AI footballers have been taught to understand the gamer’s intentions and respond adequately, seek free zones, and ensure some level of teamwork.
FIFA 23 has introduced "cannon" (in terms of power) shots on goal, expanded the list of passes, and made defensive maneuvers tougher. During free kicks, penalties, and corners, there is more control: you can even choose which part of the ball to strike. In turn, goalkeepers can twist their limbs in such a way that they will save the ball in dozens of new ways. And they are always ready to catch the ball at the feet of the attacker.
The revamped team chemistry system is an important change in the mechanics of the FUT mode. Instead of directly linking players, the focus has been shifted to common parameters (past in the club, league, or the same nationality). The more such matches there are, the higher the overall chemistry. Penalties on characteristics for its absence have been completely removed. Most cards now have additional positions, for example, left and right wingers (no longer needing to use consumables to place a right winger in the left position).
Single player
Career modes for player or team coach have received minor improvements. Now, the player has a personality (three characteristics that influence gameplay) that is shaped by decisions made on and off the football field, in "everyday" life. The coach mode has introduced a rating system for evaluating actions in the transfer market, expanded club management capabilities, and improved the new club creation tool.
There is no story campaign, but there are "Moments" - scripted challenges, mini-games, and training sessions focused on completing specific tasks, such as scoring a goal with a certain player. "Dynamic moments" - video inserts that appear here and there - break up the movement between menus and the football field.
Co-op
Together with a partner (from the friends list), you can play friendly matches against another duo or a single player, compete against each other in weekly competitive matches (Squad Battles), and rival different teams in the same division.
The card sets of the two players merge for a short period into a single pool, allowing each to try out new player combinations and playing styles. FIFA 23 co-op refers to online play, meaning it requires two copies and a connection to the servers.
Multiplayer
The Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 23 has received cosmetic changes. As always, after the release, players start with a set of basic player cards and must build a "dream team" by participating in weekly and monthly challenges, winning in single-player and online matches, and progressing through difficulty divisions.
Players are rewarded with in-game currency for completed activities and achievements, which can be used to purchase higher-class player cards that strengthen the team and allow for climbing higher in the rankings and achieving even more victories. The same cards can also be bought for real money.
In addition to knowing tactical schemes and improving your futsim skills, you need to manage the team by selling unnecessary cards for a higher price and buying more suitable players for less on the local transfer market within the club's budget. Besides Pro Clubs, Ultimate Team also features arcade modes like VOLTA.
Key Features:
- FIFA 23 is the last futsim from EA Sports under the FIFA brand. The next football game is called EA Sports Football Club 2024 and was released in the second half of 2023.
- Crossplay is supported on consoles within the same generation in FUT, FUT Champions, and Drafts modes, as well as in friendly and seasonal matches, except for co-op.
- The graphics on all platforms are now on the same level. For example, the pitch will show traces of confrontations and tackles, and in areas of heavy wear, it will start to wear down and become "bald." Ball physics have also been improved.

Reviews and ratings
The game is top, there is simply no equal football simulator! But the Ultimate team mode is implemented badly, the desire to play disappears. They give you a team of helpless people who trip over their own feet and get injured, and you are faced with a team of top players whose every tackle of the ball is successful and every shot on target, running so hard that you simply can’t catch up. It is possible to defeat only types with the same team of helpless ones. Or opponents of amateurs who simply play poorly. The point is to donate to the game, make the top team and then win. Your skill and tactics in the game do not matter; losing simply because your team can barely breathe is sad.
You can only play tournaments and quick games, where everyone chooses mostly strong teams, and here victories … Read full
Read full
