Dragon Age: The Veilguard Writer and Several Other Studio Veterans Leave BioWare

The news of staff changes at BioWare was followed by reports of mass layoffs. Patrick Weekes, who worked on the Mass Effect and served as the lead writer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, was among those leaving the studio.

The developer had been working at BioWare since 2005 and was responsible for writing for all Mass Effect games except Andromeda, as well as Dragon Age: Inquisition and its expansions, Jaws of Hakkon and Trespasser. In recent years, he served as the lead writer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which did not live up to Electronic Arts' expectations. Patrick Weekes also wrote the characters Tali'Zorah for Mass Effect, Solas for Inquisition, and Taash for The Veilguard.

Along with him, several BioWare employees announced their resignation. Their ranks included editor-in-chief Karin Weekes, who had worked there since 2006, narrative editor Ryan Cormier, producer Jennifer Cheverie Cott, writer Sheryl Chee, who had worked there since 2005, and senior systems architect Michelle Flamm.

Earlier, game designer of the new Dragon Age Corinne Busche and one of the writers left BioWare.

Recall that the publisher, EA, announced the reshuffle in the studio. The company said that it was restructuring in connection with the early stage of development of Mass Effect 5. Earlier, the team released the last major patch for Dragon Age: The Veilguard — it is likely that support for the project has ended.
