In the lands of Vermund and Battala, there are many interesting characters with whom you can interact and receive useful rewards after completing quests. Among them is the Sphinx — a mysterious creature that has prepared 10 puzzles for the player. In this guide, we will tell you where in Dragon's Dogma 2 you can find the Sphinx, how to solve all its puzzles, and complete the «Mind Games» quest.
To successfully complete all the challenges and defeat the Sphinx, you need to prepare thoroughly. For your convenience, we've compiled a list that, once completed, you can head out:
To reach the Highland Temple, you must travel a long distance and through several locations. Make your way to the «Ancient Battlefield,» which is located in the northwest of the world map. The safest route is to take the road east from the Border Town. Follow the road, climb up to the castle, and ascend using the spiral staircase. Once on the roof, use the staircase again and turn right, where you'll find the cave «Grotto at the World's Edge.»
After passing through the cave, turn right into the next linear corridor. Then, ascend the stone stairs.
You will have only one attempt to solve each puzzle, so we recommend familiarizing yourself with the challenges in advance. If you fail even one of the ten puzzles, the «Mind Games» quest will end in failure. To start the first challenges, stand on the pedestal opposite the Sphinx and begin the dialogue.
After the dialogue near the staircase, a stone door to a new location will open.
You need to find the sealing vessel, located in the chest right above the entrance. This vessel can contain a non-player character and will be useful later. Return to the Sphinx, who, upon seeing the empty sealing vessel, will open the first chest with your reward.
After opening the first chest, talk to the Sphinx to choose the next task.
You need to give an item, agreeing with the Sphinx. You can clone any item in the game, but we recommend using the sealing vessel. This can simplify solving the following puzzles.
The puzzle of madness can be solved in several ways. If you are not sure about the answer, create a separate save so you can retry this quest.
You need to bring to the pedestal a pawn or a non-player character with whom you have a close relationship. If it's a pawn, then the task can be completed in a couple of minutes, otherwise you will have to go to your love interest and use the sealing vessel. You can save time by activating the return crystal. After this, return to the Sphinx, break the vessel, and confirm that this is your love.
This is a time-limited quest. There should be no particular difficulties, especially if everything is prepared in advance.
Place the return crystal near the Sphinx and go to the seeker's token you found first. If there isn't one or you picked up the recommended one, then proceed to it past the Fracture Stone — Brotherhood. In the same place, there will now be a token of finding, which you need to give to the Sphinx. Don't hurry back because you will be able to immediately prepare the answer for the next puzzle.
If you're following the order, you should be near the Fracture Stone — Brotherhood.
To solve this, you need to bring a special pawn created by the developers to the Sphinx. A rare Fracture Stone is located in a small ruined tower. To successfully complete this, you'll need to hire a pawn named SphinxParent. To avoid searching blindly, highlight the character by adding a marker in the information viewing menu in the Fracture. Return to the Sphinx and place the pawn on the pedestal.
After this, the Sphinx will move to another location. Don't forget to pick up the return crystal if you've explored the entire area.
Return to the Border Town. You need the location to the west of the town, but getting there is not so straightforward. You can either go north, jump off the bridge and follow the river west, then turn left at the fork. Or head south, turning right at any fork.
You will automatically solve the puzzle of reunion as soon as you find the Sphinx's new location. You can immediately open the chest and take 100,000 coins. It's recommended to do this so the next puzzle activates correctly.
To the left of the Sphinx, there are stone statues. You need to bring 6 of them to the pedestal. Even if they are nearby, the quest will be counted as completed. After the dialogue, take the arrow of doom from the chest, which will come in handy during the final battle with the Sphinx.
To pass, you need to defeat the summoned knight. However, the Sphinx activates a ring that significantly reduces the damage you deal. To win, it's enough to throw your opponent out of the arena. If you're having trouble grabbing him in combat, use attacks that will knock the opponent down, after which you can safely grab him and carry him off.
To complete the quest, you need to deliver a fragile vase to Mauritius in Bakbattal. He is located on an elevation on the east side of the city.
If you haven't changed your specialization yet, you can do so in Bakbattal by visiting the city's guild.
Since carrying the vase through hordes of enemies in one attempt is incredibly difficult, you can use game mechanics and bring Mauritius to the vase, for example, using a Sealing Vessel. Alternatively, you can grab an NPC and use a Return Crystal to instantly return to the Sphinx. Both options will trigger the quest completion.
You need to find the indicated character and bring him to the Sphinx. The challenge is that there will be two twins in the city. You are looking for Virgil. He is located south of the Border Town, near the stables. You can employ the same trick as in the puzzle of vanity — grab Virgil and use a Return Crystal to instantly transport yourself to the Sphinx.
After solving all the puzzles, talk to the Sphinx one last time. As soon as the dialogue ends, open the menu, equip the bow and the Arrow of Doom, and then shoot immediately at the wing. If you do not use this arrow, the Sphinx will fly away without revealing the last golden chest to you. As a reward, you will receive the Eternal Awakening Stone, which revives fallen allies nearby.
