How to Farm XP and Level Up Fast in Fallout 4
The game mechanics of Fallout 4 are designed in such a way that the development of your character is entirely tied to the level. In turn, levels depend on the amount of experience (XP) gained. Players earn XP for killing enemies, unlocking locks, exploring the game world, upgrading weapons and armor, completing missions, and all other actions. However, there is a way to earn more XP in the same amount of time. How? You'll find out in this article.
Choose the Idiot Savant Perk at the Beginning of the Game
The Idiot Savant perk has a chance to grant 3-5 times more XP (depending on the perk level) for any action, and the lower the intelligence level, the higher the chance of this event.
We've listed some actions that grant XP above. Having a charisma level of 5, you can get an additional free XP boost for any of these actions. Some important considerations include: Firstly, you'll need to save before completing each quest to ensure luck is on your side, and completing story or side missions always yields triple points. Remember, unlocking locks or killing enemies does not grant as much XP as completing tasks.
Secondly, the chance of the booster dropping depends on your intelligence level, and you will have to sacrifice it for a while. This means forgetting about the possibility of weapon modifications, as well as such vital perks as Gun Nut, Hacker, and Science. Some companions, like Nick Valentine, can compensate for this by excellently hacking security systems.
Thirdly, you won't be able to use points from gained levels because playing towards the end of the game without a powerful brain will be difficult. You'll need to consider whether your character really needs a new perk or an extra point in Strength or Charisma, as you will eventually have to invest 10-20 points in the intelligence branch. Why? Because your character can't be an idiot all their life.
Farm XP from Side Quests
In Fallout 4, there are a plethora of side quests that don't end after completion and can be performed an infinite number of times. For example, these include agricultural tasks, as well as quests from Haylen and Rhys from the Brotherhood of Steel.
It doesn't matter who gives you the quest, for example, Haylen and Rhys will send you to the same place to scout the situation or kill enemies. They have fairly simple tasks, and you'll gain experience each time you complete them. The same goes for quests from Preston Garvey and some other characters.
So here's our advice — set aside your current tasks for a couple of hours, choose repeatable quests, complete them one after another, earn 3-5 times more experience, and milk it until you're either bored or have gained enough levels.
Invest in Intelligence Towards the End of the Game
It might not be immediately obvious, but the smarter your character is, the more XP points they will receive. Due to their intelligence, they will be assigned a special coefficient for each unlocked level in the branch, which will increase the amount of XP received in a percentage ratio from the standard.
Therefore, towards the end of the game, it makes sense to invest all available points into this branch (at least five), especially if you're tired of pretending to be a fool and grinding quick save — quick load.
In the end, the more brains you have, the more experience you will gain, and at the end of the game, this is particularly relevant since at higher levels you receive more standard experience, and with the coefficient from intelligence, the sum of XP will be more noticeable.
Farm Repeatable Quests Again
It may not sound very convincing, but towards the end of the game, you can't escape from performing monotonous tasks. Only this time, it will require joining the Brotherhood of Steel and completing about half of the storyline (you need to deal with Kellogg). In such a case, you will be invited to their flying base to be recorded as an active member of this community. There, you will be introduced to other members of the Brotherhood.
On the main deck of the ship, find Overseer Quinlan. Agree to help him in completing the Learning Curve quest. Completing this quest will give you from 300 to 400 XP points, depending on which perks you use and what your bonus from the intelligence coefficient is.
This task also needs to be completed in a special way. You will need the most long-range and powerful sniper rifle, with an excellent scope, and the task is simple — you will need to kill one of the members of the Brotherhood of Steel.
You require one precise headshot, but it must be done from the maximum distance (this also affects the XP received) and not get caught by the character himself.
As soon as he or she is sprawled on the ground, return to Overseer Quinlan, submit the task, accept the congratulations and… take it again. In the end, by constantly completing this mission, you can earn several additional levels in an hour, even if you are at a high level.
