How to Get Leather and Build a Tannery in V Rising
V Rising offers players the chance to explore a vast open world, as well as to construct and upgrade their own castles. In the early stages of the game, you may encounter difficulties while gathering various resources. In this guide, we will tell you how to build a device for creating leather and upgrade the Heart of the Castle for the first time.
How to get leather (skin) in V Rising
Leather is a very important material in V Rising, without which you won't be able to craft the best equipment for your vampire. As you complete story missions, you will reach a point where the game first suggests upgrading the level of the Heart of the Castle — the main element of your sanctuary. This is where this resource comes in handy.
Here are a few main ways to obtain leather:
- Leather can be found in chests while exploring bandit camps, as well as in villages of rogues and poachers.
- Sometimes the resource drops from defeated enemies.
- It can be obtained by processing animal hides in a tannery.
Getting a lot of leather by the first and second methods can be quite difficult. Unlike enemies, the chests you explore in camps and villages disappear forever once cleared. Therefore, in each such settlement, you will find a maximum of 2-3 units of this resource.
It's much easier to create a tannery and manufacture leather in one of your castles. Below we have described the conditions necessary for this.
How to build a Tannery and make leather. Recipe for creating flawless leather
Once you get the hang of the basic mechanics of building and have established the Heart of the Castle, the game will suggest studying the Blood Altar. This story-related structure is essential for strengthening your vampire, unlocking new blueprints, and learning various abilities.
The Blood Altar is primarily needed to track down strong enemies — carriers of unique blood. Once the altar is built, track and kill bosses in succession. You need to reach Keely, the Frost Archer. She resides in the Poacher's Camp in the northeast of the Farbane Woods.
Head to the area indicated on the map and deal with the boss. As we have already advised, be sure to deal with all the previous strong enemies before the battle. This will allow you to acquire additional abilities and somewhat simplify the fight. If you encounter difficulties, we recommend checking out this guide.
After defeating Keely, you will gain a new power, a set of recipes, and the structure needed to create leather. Return to your castle and open the building menu (press B). Go to the Refinement tab and select Tannery. The following resources will be required to construct this machine:
- Plank (8);
- Animal Hide (160).
Place the machine anywhere convenient. Right after this, some blueprints will become available to you:
- Leather (1) — is made from Animal Hides (16);
- Empty Flask (1) — is made from Leather (4) and Fiber (20);
- Flawless Leather (1) — is made from Fish Oil (4) and Flawless Hide (20).
Animal hides can be obtained in large quantities in the open world. Simply killing any animals will do. To obtain Flawless Hide, you will need to deal with more formidable predators.
How to upgrade the Heart of the Castle for the first time
Once you meet all the requirements and create enough leather, gather copper ore and smelt it in the furnace to get copper ingots. The following resources are required for the first upgrade of the Heart of the Castle:
- Copper Ingot (12);
- Leather (12).
