Although the basic mechanics in Bellwright seem quite simple, preparing for the winter period can become a real challenge for gamers. Winter can turn survival into a harsh test, especially considering the constant attacks of bandits and vicious wolves roaming around the camp. Moreover, if you face winter unprepared, the settlers may start a real riot. In this guide, we will tell you how to quickly prepare for winter and survive the cold days in Bellwright.
In fact, preparing for winter is quite simple. But first, you need to meet the basic requirements:
From this point on, do not waste time and install the available objects in the «Buildings» section. We are most interested in the Simple Workbench and Research Table. Other buildings will also be needed for quick resource and food gathering, such as the Gatherers' Camp. After doing this, you can proceed to the following points described in this guide.
Each season in Bellwright lasts seven in-game days. The first winter season can become a real test, so it is important to prepare for it in advance. In the future, dealing with the cold will be much easier: by that time, the settlement will have grown significantly, and you will have new technologies. But let's take it step by step.
At the beginning of the game, one campfire set in the center of the camp will be quite enough to warm the hero and settlers. However, if desired, you can place several campfires at once. These objects do an excellent job of heating in winter, but they quickly consume valuable wood. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure that you have a sufficient supply of firewood. To do this, you can set up a Loggers' Camp and assign workers to gather this resource. This way, you can maintain a constant supply of wood.
To save time, we recommend crafting a Logging Camp and an additional axe. In this case, you can order logs in the Loggers' Camp, which will then be processed into wood.
Of course, in an extreme case, you can always go to the snowy fields in search of sticks or chop down young trees, but it is easier to get four branches from the chest and throw them into the campfire.
In winter, berries and mushrooms do not grow in the fields, so you cannot rely on them. Instead, we recommend stocking up on berries for bait in advance, creating a large number of traps, and placing them around the camp. While the berries are fresh, use them to fill the traps and collect meat.
This is the most optimal option for survival during the winter period. However, do not limit yourself to just traps. You can also explore the shores of water bodies and find fishermen who are engaged in their craft. Fish is an excellent food source in cold days, but it is not cheap. One raw fish will cost you 10 coins, so make sure to save up a small amount in advance for its purchase. This way, you can diversify the diet of your settlers and increase their chances of survival in cold days.
The best protection against the cold in Bellwright is the Winter Cloak. This special piece of clothing can be crafted at the Weaving Loom, and it will become an indispensable helper in the fight against frost. However, before you start making it, you need to study the Gatherers' Camp at the research table. Fortunately, this process is not very difficult and will take you very little time. The Winter Cloak will significantly increase your hero's chances of survival and comfortable living in the harsh winter days.
Resources needed to craft the Winter Cloak:
This will be enough to survive the winter at first. A little later, you will be able to unlock more advanced clothing technologies at the research table, which will protect the hero from the cold.
