The Best Starter Weapons in Once Human

Once Human is an exciting open-world survival RPG set in a post-apocalyptic environment teeming with alien creatures. One of the key aspects here is choosing the right starter weapon for successful survival. In this guide, we will look at the best starter weapons in Once Human and provide recommendations for their use.

What Weapons Are Available in Once Human

In Once Human, you have three weapon slots: two for ranged weapons and one for melee weapons. However, you can carry more in your inventory at any time. So there is nothing wrong with keeping more on hand. It is worth noting that ammunition is a limited resource, and while it is easy to craft in large quantities, it is not always possible.

Initially, you will be able to craft the following types of weapons:

  • Pistol: a decent all-around firearm with a decent magazine capacity;
  • Shotgun: a powerful weapon with a small magazine and short range;
  • Submachine Gun (SMG): weaker than most weapons but has the highest rate of fire. However, the small magazine size means you will have to reload often, and the high rate of fire means you will chew through ammunition;
  • Rifle: slightly more powerful than an SMG, with a slightly larger magazine size;
  • Sniper Rifle: powerful and accurate, the sniper rifle works best at a distance. The low rate of fire and small magazine can put you in danger if you try to use it up close;
  • Light Machine Gun (LMG): the big brother of the SMG. Slightly weaker and moderately slower, but with an increased magazine size.

Best Early Weapons in Once Human

You will automatically receive a machete and a crossbow as you progress through the «Eve of Evolution,» the first mission in the game. These weapons will serve you well until you get blueprints for more effective guns.

Pistol

The choice of weapon is up to you. For your money, the pistol is the best choice. It has decent power and rate of fire, which compensates for the low magazine capacity. You will have to choose between a powerful weapon with a smaller magazine or a weaker weapon with a high rate of fire that risks quickly burning through your ammunition.

Shotgun and Crossbow

If you have the materials to craft more ammunition, it is recommended to use the shotgun. Despite its small magazine size, it is capable of quickly killing any enemy that gets too close. However, the crossbow is a decent weapon and one of the strongest in the early stages of the game.

Recurve Bow

As you progress through the first missions, you will eventually unlock the recurve bow. While it is not the most powerful early weapon, it has a good combination of range and accuracy, allowing you to hit the enemy's weak spot. Remember, you can enter first-person mode by right-clicking, which will further increase your accuracy.

However, keep in mind that characters weighing more than 85 kg receive a +15 weapon stability bonus. Thus, low-stability weapons like the submachine gun, rifle, and light machine gun are more effective in their hands.

Best Melee Weapons

As for melee weapons, you will have the option to craft a baseball bat or a torch. Of these two, the baseball bat is the better choice. While the machete is slightly stronger, the bat has an increased chance of critical hits and increased damage to weak spots. The first strong hit on an enemy (excluding bosses and meta-humans) also deals blunt damage, reducing the enemy's damage by 30% for 15 seconds.
