Boss Guide for Silent Hill 2 Remake — How to Win
Silent Hill 2 wouldn't be as great without its memorable bosses. The remake sticks to the tried and true formula, so players will encounter the familiar five strong enemies, although their behavior patterns have been adjusted. In this guide, we'll talk about each of the five bosses, their attacks, and the optimal tactics for victory.

Pyramid Head
Interestingly, in the game, Pyramid Head has another official name — Red Pyramid. However, the nickname has become so ingrained among gamers that it's now almost impossible to imagine Silent Hill without Pyramid Head.
You will encounter the monster several times, but there are main rules to remember for victory. First, dodge in time. It's generally useful to keep a distance with the boss, but if you have to confront him — it's important to adapt to his slow attacks to dodge them.
Second, shoot the body. The monster has a huge iron pyramid on its head. Hitting it makes no sense.
Third, quick melee attacks only after dodging will help. If you perfectly time it, the hero will have a few seconds for two melee attacks.
The first encounter with the monster will occur after unlocking room 201 in Wood Side Apartments, on the second floor. The second meeting is in Blue Creek Apartments. After solving the old clock puzzle, you will need to hold out for some time against the boss. The third meeting is in Brookhaven Hospital, in the otherworld. The monster will have a spear and will start chasing James and Maria as they run to the elevator. The fourth meeting will take place in the Labyrinth, in the center of a destroyed corridor. The boss will corner you, forcing you to act. The fifth and final meeting will be in Lake View Hotel. There you will face two monsters at once.
It will be useful to know the main attacks the boss makes throughout all encounters:
- The first move is a sweeping sword strike from top to bottom vertically. A similar strike exists horizontally as well;
- If the boss goes into a rage state, he will start performing combos of the first two moves in a chaotic order;
- If James gets close enough, the boss will always try to hit him with his left hand or strangle him. In case of strangulation, you'll have to go through a QTE to break free.
When the spear appears, the moves will change slightly:
- First — a spear thrust in front of him. The strike has a huge range, so you need to be careful;
- Second move — a jab with the raised spear. Works almost the same as the previous one;
- Sometimes the monster will raise the spear and then forcefully thrust it in front of him;
- Finally, the boss will strike the ground with the spear to cause damage with a shockwave.
Flesh Lips
The second boss you will encounter in the game is quite different from its original form. To win, you must accurately shoot the monster's hand when it emerges from the ceiling. The ceiling tiles will slightly shake before this happens, and they will also fall, opening up space and reducing the area available to the boss. An accurate shot to the hand will immobilize the monster for a while and make it fall. Immediately attack with melee attacks, as you need to save as many bullets as possible for the second phase.
When you break the cage, the boss will become faster and more aggressive, but at the same time, it will lose all defenses. Use the shotgun to quickly neutralize the threat.
Flesh Lips' movements are quite primitive. In the first phase, the monster falls from the ceiling or swings its hand. In the second phase, the boss will start screaming, which will stun James. Additionally, limb attacks will become faster and cover more space. The boss will learn to quickly close the distance and attack with its hands while in flight. And lastly, it will stomp the space in front of it with its limbs.
You will encounter the monster in the final stages of Brookhaven Hospital when the little girl Laura tricks you into being locked in a room.
Abstract Daddy
Abstract Daddy looks like a person trapped in a painting. It is a dangerous opponent. The battle with it lasts several encounters. Save your bullets and use melee combat to deal as much damage as possible at the beginning. If you somehow manage to get behind it — shoot the head or back — this deals increased damage. The fight takes place in confined spaces, so it's better to use the shotgun.
Pay attention to the boss's movements:
- A leap towards James, as if the boss wants to hug him. The hero will be grabbed if he doesn't dodge in time;
- From time to time, Daddy will simply hit with his hands or deliver a powerful sweeping blow from left to right.
You will encounter the boss in the Labyrinth right after meeting Angela.
Eddie
Eddie is an ordinary person, but the fight with him has several peculiarities, making it difficult to win. The entire battle takes place in the dark, so it will be hard for you to navigate. Eddie constantly moves, so listen carefully. Pay special attention to the moments when the boss speaks — right after he starts shooting. The pistol will be your main weapon. Its high rate of fire compensates for the reduced damage.
Eddie's movements include the following:
- Shots. Like you, Eddie shoots from a pistol and can fire up to 6 shots from his revolver before reloading;
- At close range, Eddie will start hitting with his pistol in melee;
- Also at close range, Eddie will try to grab the hero with his hand and then headbutt him.
You will meet Eddie in the Wood Side apartments while looking for one of the three coins to unlock the Coin Cabinet. Eddie is in room 116.
Later, when you are heading to Brookhaven Hospital with Maria, Eddie will move to the abandoned Revir cinema. The final encounter will happen in the Labyrinth. Eddie will be the final boss of this area.
Final Boss
The final boss depends on your playstyle and the ending you are aiming for. However, in any case, there are only two options: Mary or Maria. You will encounter the boss on the top floor of Lake View Hotel.
For the first phase, we recommend using the pistol. Although the rifle deals more damage, the pistol is faster and easier to aim with. In the second phase, the boss becomes slower, so it's time to switch to the shotgun. For obvious reasons, there is no point in saving ammo, so don't try to engage in melee combat.
The boss has several moves that are independent of the phase:
- A swarm of butterflies that flies towards you at a distance;
- Teleportation, where the boss envelops themselves in butterflies and instantly moves around the arena;
- A scream that interrupts your actions.
In the first phase, the boss strikes with their limbs to the right or left and also makes sudden lunges. In the second phase, a sweeping strike is added, which reaches you at a significant distance, an area attack in front of them, and a jumping attack.
