All endings of Silent Hill 2 Remake — how to get the secret endings

The remake of Silent Hill 2 is notable not only for its deep psychological plot and rich atmosphere but also for having multiple endings. At the time of the original release, the game featured six endings, which depended on very vague conditions. In the remake, the developers added two more. In this guide, we will discuss all the endings, the necessary actions to unlock them, and the items required.

Ending Leave

Let's start with the most positive ending by Silent Hill standards, which is also the easiest to achieve. In this ending, James realizes everything and leaves the foggy town with Laura. The main idea of this ending is that James came to Silent Hill as a loving husband eager to find his missing wife, so he should behave accordingly.

First and foremost, regularly examine the photo and letter from your wife. This should be done throughout the game, so you can't trick the game by opening the inventory 10 times at the beginning.

Secondly, always keep yourself almost healthy. That is, regularly replenish your health by all available means. This is more challenging on higher difficulty levels, but there should be no problems on medium.

Now for the more complex actions — you will need to ignore Maria as much as possible. Do not visit her in the hospital or the Labyrinth, do not try to protect her from monsters, and do not follow her lead when possible.

At some point, you will receive Angela's knife in your inventory. Do not examine it.

Finally, towards the end of the game, listen to all the phrases by the sickbed in the long corridor. And lastly, before the service elevator at the Lake View Hotel, take the personal items with you. These are the only items you can take without exceeding the weight limit.

Ending Maria

This ending is the opposite of the previous one, where you prioritize Maria. Logically, you should not check Mary's letter and photo, nor should you examine Angela's knife, but you should regularly visit Maria and take care of her condition. Be sure to visit her in the hospital and the Labyrinth. Do not listen to all the dialogues by the sickbed in the long corridor and do not take the personal items before the service elevator. In the finale, James leaves Silent Hill with Maria, doomed to repeat everything that happened again.

Ending In Water

This is the most negative of the three official endings, where James is unable to cope with the burden of responsibility and continue living. For this ending, you should frequently examine the knife, symbolizing the character's thoughts of suicide. Additionally, your playstyle should become more aggressive and reckless. Replenish health only to the bare minimum and constantly be in a state of injury. Naturally, do not examine Mary's photo and letter more than twice throughout the game. Everything else is conditional. It seems that this ending can be achieved even if you start looking at the knife closer to the end and simply stop healing. Interacting with Maria does not affect the outcome.

Ending Ritual

Moving on to more complex endings, which are only available in New Game+. The first of them is Ritual. In this ending, James decides to resurrect Mary through magic, but he will need several ingredients for this. A total of 4 items are needed, and this is the only requirement. Otherwise, you can play the game as usual.

  • The Crimson Ceremony book — located in the cemetery at the beginning of the game. This is where you first meet Angela. Go to the right part of the location.
  • White Chrism — can be found in front of the Baldwin Mansion when James and Maria leave Rosewater Park.
  • Obsidian Goblet — found in the Historical Society, next to one of the paintings depicting Pyramid Head.
  • Book of Lost Memories — lies in the lost and found office on the first floor of the Lake View Hotel.

Ending UFO

A humorous ending that doesn't fit well with the overall atmosphere of the game and is also only available in New Game+. You will need to find a special item — blue gem — and use it in the right places.

At the beginning of the game, visit the jewelry store. You can find it north of Big Jay's on Neely Street. Next, go to Groovy Music store, where you find a broken record and vinyl glue. On the bench to the right of the entrance, you will find a magazine that contains several hints about an alien device in Silent Hill. Now you will have to visit the necessary places.

  • First — on the roof of Saul Apartments on Saul Street. You should hear strange atypical sounds, and at this moment, examine the gem. The sounds will intensify after this.
  • Second — the pier in Rosewater Park. Approach the telescopes by the water and you will hear the sounds again. Look at the gem again.
  • Third place — Lakeside Hotel. There is no exact information about the specific point, but in the old version, it was room 312.

Ending Dog

Another funny ending in New Game+. To get it, you will need to make a special key, which you will use to open the observatory room next to room 312 in the Lake View Hotel. Visit the pet shop north of Big Jay's. In the back room in the dog carrier is the needed part. After leaving Rosewater Park, you will again be able to explore the city's streets. Go to Katz Street and find the gate with a dog bone image. This place is near the Baldwin Mansion. Go through the gate and examine the doghouse. Combine the two parts into one and open the door of that room when you are in the hotel.

We have dealt with the old endings, but two new ones have been added to the remake. It is not yet fully known all the ways to unlock them. We will describe what we know.

Ending Silence

Again available in New Game+ mode. At the very beginning of the game, get to the place where James received the plank and radio. Now you have the opportunity to find a chainsaw (in the ranch area). Find the green car near Best Auto Parts. Break all the windows with the chainsaw and find the key of sorrow. It will be needed later.

Visit the LakeView Hotel and talk to Angela. Then go to the second floor to the manager's room. Inside, there is a safe. Insert the key and enter 3 (right), 1 (left), 4 (right). You only need the numbers, not the number of turns. Inside the safe, there is a postcard. This is what you need for the ending, which is an extended version of In Water. According to some sources, the ending is not available if you have not yet unlocked the In Water ending in the usual way or are not heading towards it in this playthrough, but there is no confirmation of this at the moment.

Ending Bliss

Again, it will open in New Game+. After first meeting Maria, go to Pete's Bowl-O-Rama. There is a safe in the shoe locker, the code for which is 1887. Inside, there is a key. In Brookhaven Hospital, find the gazebo in the garden with a hole through which you can crawl. Inside, you can use the key on the padlock, after which you will receive a liquid substance called White Claudia.

Get to the Lake View Hotel and go to room 312 as per the storyline. Before watching the tape on the VCR, drink the found liquid. This will unlock the new ending.
