Baldur's Gate 3 is the first game in history to win five GOTY awards
GamesRadar noted the impressive record set by Baldur's Gate 3. It turns out that Larian Studios released the first game in the world to snag the main awards at five prestigious prizes.
Baldur's Gate 3 was named Game of the Year by The Game Awards 2023, D.I.C.E. Awards, Game Developers Choice, Golden Joystick Awards, and BAFTA. The game received its last prize yesterday.
Journalists particularly highlighted that winners are chosen differently at all five ceremonies. Apparently, Baldur's Gate 3 became such a significant event that it made an impression on all layers of the gaming industry, from casual gamers to experienced developers.
Three games came closest to this record: Zelda: Breath of the Wild, God of War, and Elden Ring. In all cases, the titles won four main awards, but the fifth was given to someone else.
GamesRadar also recalled instances when «Game of the Year» was awarded to four titles. In 2014, the winners were Dragon Age: Inquisition, Destiny, Dark Souls 2, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor; in 2019 — Untitled Goose Game, Sekiro, Outer Wilds, and Resident Evil 2; and in 2021 — It Takes Two, Returnal, Inscryption, and Resident Evil Village.
