PlayStation Plus Members to Receive Compensation Due to Massive PSN Outage

The PlayStation Network service was down for a whole day, but it was restored a few hours ago. Sony has already promised to compensate subscribers for the waiting time.
As a reminder, the PSN service stopped working on the morning of February 8, due to which players could not access multiplayer projects like Helldivers 2 and some co-op games. PlayStation later announced that it was working on a solution to the problem, but did not provide any information about the reasons for the outage.
At the time of writing, the PlayStation Network servers are fully operational. Sony also promised to add five days to the PlayStation Plus subscription to compensate for the day of waiting.
Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

Incidentally, this is not the largest network outage. For example, in 2011, PSN was down for 23 days due to a hacker attack, as a result of which user data was leaked onto the network.
Sony recently removed the requirement for a Steam account to be linked to the PlayStation Network for a number of PC games, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok.
