GMKTec AD-GP1 Unveiled — A Powerful External GPU with OCuLink

GMKTec has announced the AD-GP1, a new external graphics card designed for compact PCs and laptops. The device is powered by the Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU based on the RDNA 3 architecture, typically found in gaming laptops. Unlike many other eGPU enclosures, this model comes with a pre-installed GPU, meaning users won’t be able to swap it out.

The AD-GP1 connects via OCuLink (PCIe 4.0 x4) and USB4, ensuring minimal performance loss compared to USB4 solutions that lack PCIe support. For display output, it offers two HDMI 2.1 ports and two DisplayPort 2.0 connectors, allowing multiple monitors to be used simultaneously.

The GPU is equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, which may be a limitation for modern games. Cooling is handled by a blower-style fan, though the manufacturer has not disclosed noise levels under load. The unit is powered by a 240W adapter. The GMKTec AD-GP1 is listed on the company’s official website for $460, making it one of the few mid-range eGPU solutions with OCuLink support.
