Retroid announces Pocket Flip2 console with a 5.5" screen and dual processors

Retroid has announced an update to its portable console lineup — the Pocket Flip2. This clamshell-style device merges a modernized design with top-tier technical specifications, aiming to become a new favorite among gamers.
The standout upgrade is the 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution, replacing the 4.7-inch display of its predecessor. With a brightness of 500 nits and vivid colors, the screen ensures excellent visibility even under bright lighting. Engineers have reworked the control layout, placing the analog sticks above the D-pad and buttons for enhanced comfort during long gaming sessions. The body is slightly larger but retains one-handed usability.
For the first time, Retroid offers a choice between two processors: the Snapdragon 865 and MediaTek Dimensity 1100. Paired with 8 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, both chips ensure smooth performance for PlayStation 2, GameCube, and other retro platform emulators. An active cooling system with a fan prevents overheating, even in resource-intensive games.
Despite the upgrades, the console has dropped the microHDMI port, leaving only USB-C for charging and connecting to external displays. However, the battery capacity remains the same at 5,000 mAh with support for 27-watt charging. Running on Android 13, the Retroid Pocket Flip2 is positioned as a versatile device for retro gaming enthusiasts and modern indie game lovers. The launch of this device could intensify competition in the mid-range portable console market. Pricing and release dates are yet to be announced.
