CD Projekt RED has released the 15th episode of the AnsweRED podcast, diving into the making of The Witcher 4's debut trailer.
- The trailer was created by CD Projekt RED in collaboration with Platige Image, the same team behind the Killing Monsters cinematic for The Witcher 3;
- One of the key inspirations was A24 films like The Witch and The Lighthouse, as well as the works of Polish painter Jozef Chelmonski;
- Bringing the Bauk, the monster from the trailer, to life was one of the biggest challenges in motion capture. The creature was played by four to five actors simultaneously, with its limbs mimicked using metal rods. The team also 3D-printed Bauk's head for reference;
- Fun fact: one of the actors portraying Bauk was Maciej Kwiatkowski, who performed most of Geralt's animations in previous games;
- This was also Platige Image’s first major project using Unreal Engine 5. In the past, the studio relied on traditional VFX techniques, but Unreal allowed them to preview near-final renders with minimal delays.
The Witcher 4 was officially announced in December 2024. There's no release date yet, but the game is expected to launch in late 2026.
