New Resident Evil Film Scheduled for 2026 Release

A new film in the Resident Evil franchise is scheduled to premiere on September 18, 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony Pictures will be distributing the film.

The title and plot details are currently under wraps. However, it's known that Zach Cregger, director of the 2022 horror film Barbarian, will be at the helm. It's unclear whether the film will be an adaptation of one of the games or tell a completely new story. The filmmakers are reportedly aiming to emphasize the horror elements. Filming is set to begin in late spring.

The previous film in the franchise, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, was released in 2021, received low scores (44/100 on Metacritic), and grossed $41.9 million at the box office.
