OpenAI Trials ChatGPT Integration with Google Drive and Slack

OpenAI has announced the start of beta testing for its new ChatGPT Connectors. This innovation will allow the chatbot to connect to workspaces on Google Drive and Slack, unlocking real-time analysis of documents, spreadsheets, and even ongoing conversations.
Powered by an updated version of the GPT-4 model, ChatGPT will be able to search for answers across a wide range of data — including presentations, Slack chats, spreadsheets, and Google files. To ensure security, OpenAI will synchronize encrypted copies of the data on its servers while strictly enforcing access permissions. If a user lacks permission to view a Google Drive file, ChatGPT simply won’t analyze it. Administrators will also be able to control which Slack channels and Google Drive folders are connected, thereby minimizing the risk of data leaks.
Despite its groundbreaking capabilities, the current version of ChatGPT Connectors comes with a few technical limitations:
- The neural network does not process images within documents and only “reads” spreadsheets without analyzing the data.
- Private messages in Slack, interactions with bots, and group chats will remain inaccessible to ChatGPT.
- Answers to identical queries may vary depending on context or data updates.
The integration of ChatGPT with corporate platforms challenges existing solutions like Glean by offering a more flexible approach to managing internal knowledge. According to sources, OpenAI is already working on expanding this functionality to include Microsoft SharePoint and Box, further intensifying competition in the AI business solutions market. OpenAI emphasizes that while the synchronized data will not be used to train its models, it may serve as a foundation for generating synthetic data. Although this alleviates some concerns over confidentiality, questions about the long-term risks of integrating AI into corporate systems remain.
