Life is Strange: Double Exposure Receives Award That No One Could Claim Due to Layoffs

At the recent Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony, Deck Nine's Life is Strange: Double Exposure won the Social Impact award. However, no one showed up to collect the trophy due to massive layoffs at the studio.

Narrative designer Elizabeth Ballou responded eloquently to the curious incident:

It's fitting that nobody was there to accept the GDCA award that Double Exposure won, because we all got laid off lol. A bunch of us are at GDC, but we didn't know we were even nominated so nobody was prepared to accept anything.
— Elizabeth Ballou

According to Kotaku, the coveted statuette was eventually handed over to the Life is Strange: Double Exposure team. But the solemn moment had already passed.

Recall that in December, Nine Deck carried out massive layoffs. The layoffs were justified by the difficult times the studio was facing. Life is Strange: Double Exposure itself still has “mixed” reviews on Steam, with players mostly complaining about the plot and optimization.
