Wired for Xbox, Wireless for Everything Else: 8BitDo Unveils a New Controller

Retro gaming specialist 8BitDo has announced its latest creation — the Ultimate controller in a deep green translucent shell. The design pays homage to the iconic original Xbox from 2001, but under the hood, it packs modern technology. Following similar releases from Hyperkin and Backbone, 8BitDo positions its device as a versatile solution for gamers.
The controller features Hall effect magnetic sticks and triggers, eliminating wear and ensuring precise input — critical for competitive gaming. It supports Bluetooth, USB-C, and a 2.4 GHz adapter, though a wired connection is mandatory for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. However, the controller is fully compatible with PC, smartphones (including Android and iOS), and Apple’s ecosystem — from Apple TV to visionOS.
A wireless charging dock is included, and the built-in 1,000 mAh battery delivers up to 20 hours of gameplay. Button mapping, sensitivity adjustments, and macro customization are available through the 8BitDo Ultimate Software X app, making it a flexible tool for various gaming genres.
The emerald edition is priced at $69.99, while classic black and white variants are available for $51.99. Interestingly, 8BitDo has been embracing the transparent aesthetic, previously launching a matching keyboard and mouse. Meanwhile, Backbone recently introduced a transparent mobile controller for Xbox.
