There are no other ways to find this armor, so if you want to collect absolutely all the gear options for the protagonist — this is a great opportunity. Elena will also be very pleased with your choice, however, the decision will not affect the further plot.

If McKay is alive, you will receive a cash reward of 5000 pesos. Elena will be less pleased and won't believe that McKay escaped, however, this also has no consequences later on and won't spoil your relationship with her.

If you shoot McKay in the leg — an interesting option that the game does not hint at. Unfortunately, the reward will be exactly the same as if you had just let him go — 5000 pesos. Elena will say exactly the same phrase, and you will not hear about McKay anymore.
